As the quote at the start of this web suggests, "The most accurate map possible would be the territory, and thus would be perfectly accurate and perfectly useless." This cannot be a complete map of my interests.  Listing out everything, and finding links that might point to that material would take up so much time, I would never have the chance to enjoy any of them.  So the following is a less accurate, but perhaps more useful map for getting to understand some of the things I like or ponder.

  • Reading - I like to read.  I like to read a lot.  The house I live in has a wall 15 feet long floor to ceiling filled with books.  With many many boxes in storage.  Heaven (except for the hell of some of them being in storage)
    • E-Text - Thankfully, I don't have to have a copy of every book I would like to read...Many have been converted to a machine readable form.
    • Virtual Book Stores - How could I not list things like:

  • Cats - I have 7 currently.  Yes seven.  I must like the little monsters
    • My Cats - Pictures Pictures Pictures.  If you hate looking at phones of other peoples children... don't check out this link.
    • Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project - a not-for-profit group dedicated to providing free spay and neuter services to help solve the feral cat crisis in the Puget Sound region.
    • Street Cat Aid Team - My roommate started this organization to facilitate all the work she does with ferals in the Seattle metro area.
    • Feline Diabetes Message Board - one of my children has Diabetes...

  • HomeBrewing - I've recently started Home brewing beer. Fun! and I don't just mean the results...

  • Computers - But not just the machines themselves (though they are cool too...but the ways in which communication, art, media, research, publishing, storage, Law, even ritual and religions are effected by the medium. Project Gutenberg mentioned on my E-Text Page is one example of change in both publishing and access to material that I find fascinating.
    • Free Software Foundation - Be sure to also see the GPL. Simple documents and ideals that crack the very foundation of Western Capitalism.  I could fill a page with links to the numerous court cases (usually by the copyrights)
    • Bitlaw - There is even a whole new category of Technology Law...
    • LiveJournal - Used to be when one kept a diary, one kept it private.  Perhaps sharing it only with ones bestest of friends.  Livejournal lets one keep a type of online journal that is shared more widely.  I'm rather constantly.  See also:The Readers' List - "The reader's list is a community designed to find and collect the best Livejournal entries in one place."  and Blogger
    •  While sites like Livejournal tend to be communities of friends and connections, there is also a dizzying number of communities of common interest. Communities that span not only friends groups, cities, or even regions, but can and often do have members from all over the world. Lets also not forget the Elder of the bunch Usenet See: Yahoo Groups | Communities.com |MSN Groups | Open Directory | Google | Since we started this section with Livejournal, lets not forget their long list of communities
    • There are those who find ways of using the unique power of the internet to reach folks in more personal ways that could be accomplished in other ways.  Even to the finding of an organ donation.  Be sure to also see: US Government Site | Donate Life.net | UNOS | IAOD |

  • Psychology - My Degree is in Psychology.  When I was younger I used to say that I decided on Psychology over my other options because I was puzzled by myself.  My college years where thus spent doing what every other college student does to some extent.. just in a more focused manner. Over the years since school, I have come to appreciate how useful knowledge of human interaction, motivation and thought process can be in weird or unexpected places.  It has certainly paid off in various technology support positions.

  • Astronomy & Space Flight- When I was younger, I wanted to be an astronaut.  Seriously enough that I briefly flirted with joining the Navy to increase my chances through military aviation.  Thankfully, my 4 hour Navy career ended when one of the doctors at the entrance center in Oakland  detected asthma.

  • Classic and Current Video Games  - Three years ago I came across an old Nintendo console with ten games at a thrift store.  Thus began a collection of consoles, old cartridges, a closet full of game consoles connected to the TV, and several selves in storage.  It doesn't hurt that one of my roomates used to work for Atari and and wrote games from the 5200 (Xari Arena) and Nintendo (John)
    • I've got too many links for classic and other video games.  More coming, but for now, play some of my java collection I've pulled together from the web.
    • JavaGames - Collection I pulled together from various resources on the web.  A great way to waste time at work.
